7 Steps That Can Aid Your Personal Development Journey

Personal Development is a way an individual assess his/her qualities and skills, consider their aims in life and set goals in order to realise and maximise their potential.

Abraham Maslow (1970) suggests that all individuals have an in-built need for personal development which occurs through a process called self-actualisation.

These information and advice is designed to help you to think about your personal development and ways in which you can work towards goals and your full potential.

1. Personalise your vision

Most often I hear people talk about what they see themselves doing in the next few years and how they plan on achieving it.

One of the step to personal development is having a vision because a man without a vision is as good as blind.

A clear idea of where you want to be in a few months or years, and why - is a crucial part of developing oneself.

Remember the WHY is as important as the journey itself. Why do you strive for the development of yourself?

Once you can answer this question then your journey will be much easier.

Always make sure you see beyond your current environment when setting your vision because one who only envision himself to his current location is bound to be limited in ideas.

2. Embrace lifelong learning:

Learning they say never stops; we learn new things everyday.  In order for us to achieve any goal we set, we must have an idea about that particular thing we want to achieve.

Success at any stage often come hand in hand with an insatiable curiosity and a passion for learning.

By adopting a habit of continual learning, one do not only keep their mind sharp but also open up to new possibilities, ideas, and opportunities.

It is never too late to learn, embrace lifelong learning today.

3. Stay Focus:

In the journey to personal development one must be focused. You must not loose focus of your goals in life. Challenges will come from time to time but your level of focus will determine how you overcome them.

As we learn, evolve, and achieve our goals, our confidence soars. Personal growth isn’t just about external accomplishments; it’s about the internal confidence that comes from pushing our boundaries and realizing our potential.

4. Assess yourself:

Assessment are  ways we measure our performance in several areas of life; always assess and evaluate yourself periodically as this will enable you to know where you need an improvement and what you need to stop doing.

Personal development can only be achieved if we are able to improve our lives from what it use to be and the best way is to assess your joruney from time to time.

5. Prioritise your health and well-being:

No one can achieve any goal or develop with a bad health or an unhealthy state of mind. I’ve realized that it’s not just about the hustle and grind. It’s equally important to dedicate time towards maintaining your health and well-being.

Many believe pushing oneself to the breaking point is a form of success but I'm here to tell you that it's not, in fact you will end up burning out and be less productive.

A relax mind tends to be more productive, too much stress always lead to lack of productivity.

Take a break, involve yourself in routine exercises, and have a good sleep from time to time as this will help in keeping your brain sharp as you circumvent life challenges on a daily basis.

6. Set priorities:

Many often use priority and goal interchangeably, while they work hand in hand; priority is different from goal.

Priority is the order of importance we place the goal we want to achieve in life; while goals are set of instructions we have drafted in order to serve as guidelines to the achievement of results.

Make sure you don't always jump your set goals because you feel its time consuming or not financially lucrative; you need to meet one need before another arises. Do not be in a hurry to get there. A hurried journey is an unstable journey.

Take your time in achieving all your set priorities.

7. Be Curious:

A curious mind they say is a healthy mind.

For you to think of developing yourself; you have to be curious because one who is not curious never learn anything. Whatever you know today was due to one curiosity or the other at one point in time in your life.

Many people have mentors and role models because they want to know how these people they look up to were able to come about their greatness. Curiosity will take your mind to great places and give you a different view of how things work.

Learn to always ask questions in areas you don't understand or have an idea about a particular thing, there's no shame in learning for the first time what others have known for ages. Remember learning never stops.

Final thoughts: it's a personal journey

Always have it mind that your journey is yours alone to undertake, no one is going to go with you because you are on the joruney for your personal development not friendship or community development.

These points are just few out of thousands that will guild you in your Personal Development journey.

Take that step today and your future self we thank you for it.
